On Tuesday (October 28), as it moves towards the coast of Andhra Pradesh, the Motha cyclone is likely to hit near Kakinada between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam. According to the latest report from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Motha, located in the southwest Bay of Bengal, is moving northwest at a speed of about 13 kilometers per hour over the past six hours.

The maximum speed of the Motha cyclone in Andhra Pradesh will be 90-100 kilometers per hour. The cyclone is currently 420 kilometers from Chennai, 500 kilometers from Visakhapatnam, and 450 kilometers from Kakinada. Heavy rain and strong winds are blowing along the coast of Andhra Pradesh. The entire coastal region is on high alert.

Prime Minister Modi spoke with Naidu over the phone

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu reviewed the situation from the Real-Time Governance Society Center at the Secretariat. He stated that the administration is prepared to face any situation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with the Chief Minister over the phone and assured him of all possible assistance to the state. Dr. M. Mahapatra, Director General of the Indian Meteorological Department, stated that Andhra Pradesh will be the most affected, followed by Odisha and then Chhattisgarh. Heavy rains are expected in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Tamil Nadu from October 28 to 30.

Holidays for Schools and Colleges

Due to heavy rains in many parts of Tamil Nadu, the administration has declared a holiday for schools and colleges on Tuesday. Orders have been issued to keep all educational institutions closed in Chengalpattu and Cuddalore districts due to continuous rain and waterlogging in low-lying areas.

Advisory Issued for Travelers

Due to Cyclone Montha in Andhra Pradesh, Indigo Airlines has issued a travel advisory for passengers traveling to Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, and Rajahmundry. The airline stated that heavy rains and strong winds are affecting many flights to and from these cities.

The CPRO of South Central Railway stated that considering Cyclone Montha, several trains have been canceled for passenger safety. The East Coast Railway has announced the cancellation of several trains passing through or originating from the Andhra Pradesh coast. These trains were scheduled to depart on October 27, 28, and 29.

22 NDRF teams deployed

The government has deployed 22 teams of the National Disaster Response Force in all five affected states of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, and Chhattisgarh. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea due to the possibility of rough seas and high waves.

Red alert in Odisha

The Odisha government is relocating people from sensitive areas to safe locations. A red alert has been declared in eight southern districts. If the cyclone changes its path, all districts have been warned to remain alert.
